FTP -
File Tranmission Protocol. A method of transferring files between systems that are connected via a network.
WS_FTP - WS_FTP is a WinSock FTP client which allows Windows and Windows95 users with a SLIP/PPP connection to the Internet to download and upload files via FTP.

Setup

  1. Double Click on your Ws_ftp icon to execute the program
  2. Remove the text from the Profile Name text string box
  3. Enter "Your Site Name" into the Profile Name box
  4. Remove the text from the Host Name text string box
  5. Enter "ftp.netfeed.com" into the Host Name text string box
  6. Set the value of the Host Type box to "Automatic detect."
  7. Place a check mark in the Anonymous Login check box if one does not exist.
  8. Set the value of the User ID text string box to "your login id".
  9. Set the value of the Password text string box to "your login password".
  10. The other text string boxes and check boxes should be empty.
  11. Now click on the Save button to save the profile that you have just created.

Using Ftp

  • Select the site that you wish to ftp to by clicking on the down arrow to the right of the Profile Name text string box and clicking on the profile name that you wish to use. If you do not have a profile set up for the site that you wish to connect to, see the setup section above for the steps to take in setting up a profile for the site that you wish to connect to.
  • Now that you have the Profile Name selected, click on the OK button. This will connect you to the ftp server.
  • You will now have a window which shows your system in the left hand column, and the remote system in the right hand column. The operation of the directory trees on each system is similar to Windows File Manager.
  • You switch directories by clicking in the top box in each column for the local and remote systems.
  • You select files by highlighting the files in the lower window.
  • To Transfer a file from one system to the other, you highlight the file on one side, and then click on the appropriate arrow between the columns to copy the file to the other system.
