Clear Channel Radio Station Tortures and Kills in Feast of Cruelty
Radio stations owned and operated by Clear Channel Communications, Inc., have a
history of abusing and killing
animals. The most recent example of cruelty to animals and macho cowardice exhibited by employees of Clear
Channel Communications, Inc., occurred in the parking lot of WXTB-98 Rock in Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday,
February 27, 2001.
According to witnesses and listeners of WXTB, a boar was brought to the radio station's parking lot
(see photos)
,
where he was tied up and castrated, then had his throat slit while fully conscious. The boar's screams were heard
across the airwaves. Instead of showing remorse for this heartless and obscene act of cruelty toward animals, the
radio station has made light of the public's concerns
PITA is requesting that law-enforcement officials investigate this crime and bring charges.
In the meantime, please write Clear Channel Communications and demand that:
1) Bubba the love sponge be disciplined;
2) Clear Channel Communications adopt an immediate zero tolerance policy banning stunts
involving animals on all its radio stations.
3) the station manager issue an on air apology for the torture and killing of
the boar as well as a promise that this type of behavior will not be repeated.

some Clear Channel AM
stations' news departments have been cut from 15 full-time staffers
down to one -- what's most often mentioned by employees is the
culture of the company. It's an often rowdy, good-ol'-boy way of
doing business that leaves some employees, and particularly women,
uneasy.
"If the FCC ever put out an announcement that they were
investigating Clear Channel
and wanted to talk to employees with incidents of
sexual harassment, they'd get a flood of phone calls," suggests one
former employee.
Last fall, the industry was abuzz over word that Bev Tilden, AMFM's
highest-ranking female and dubbed one of radio's most influential
women, had quietly left Clear Channel after it acquired AMFM -- but
not before complaining about a sexual-harassment incident. Tilden
would not comment for this story.
Earlier this month April Yerger, a former assistant at two Clear
Channel stations in Tampa, Fla., filed a sexual harassment suit.
According to her attorney, a station jock harassed her with
unwelcome sexual comments ("When are you going to let me lick
you?"), and when she complained to her supervisors they retaliated
against her regarding other work incidents ("You fucking whining
baby") and by opening a file on her and filling it with work critiques.
"There's an unwritten rule at Clear Channel: If you rock the boat
they'll make life miserable for you,"

Baron has been adding to the fund's stake in media companies. For instance, he picked up Radio One (Nasdaq: ROIA - news) in 2000's fourth quarter. The company targets African-American listeners, and it recently spent $1.3 billion to acquire radio stations from Clear Channel Communications (NYSE: CCU - news). Baron says the company will run these stations better than predecessors did.
