KhKK is/was a FM radio station in the
Modesto/Stockton area.
104.1 Transmitter site is Back on Corral
Hollow Road and sits up on Black Bute hill
about 1070 feet over the valley floor ( can be very windy )
it's about 28 air miles West of Modesto
Ca.
In 1998 Citadel cut back on engineering staff in the Modesto area ,
in less then 10 years the tower failed ,
saving's about $50,000 in labor,But the new tower price $500,000 ??
When was the last tower inspection , painting and repairs???? corporate radio
is KILLING this bizz.....
And if you get in the way you might have a tower fall on you !
And no C.E.O. will ever get Jail time for this type of white coller crime.

Holders
should be up in arms!!! |
Take a look at all the
Soft Money Donations and we all know why a corporation gives a million dollars to the Republicans ACCESS and protection |
|
|
Now 3 out of the 4 local big FM stations
( KATM,KHOP,KhKK, ) owned by Citadel Radio Corporation get re-sold but what about * Forstmann Little & Co * , |
|
|
The
station sold for $6 million twice now. Thanks to the Tellcom act of 1996 , thats all gone now... |
a Scott's computer automation system runs the station now and there are less DJ's , geting paid less,,,MUCH LESS ,,, then ever befor !!! ![]() |
| Why
would anyone pay $6,000,000 for a radio station then lay off most of the
staff and operate it with less DJ's then roller king ? |
|
| Dont give them your ADD dollars !!! that money will never stay in the local area.... | ![]() |
|
Why would a company put 3 K's |
|
the 104 studio looks like this except there is a new computer automation system
that has replaced the DJ's and news women
From
the Tower site you can look down on PRiMEX , part of Livermore lab (nukes-r-us
)
Stuff blows up on the far right side ( pit area )
You can see red doors on bunkers on the left side of the hill,
this pic show the view west looking down
on Corral Hollow road and the Livermore lab's bomb test site
from the 104.1 fm transmitter site door.
Near by bomb tester's for Livermore labs......Primex
1998 Painting the OLD 104.1 Tower
( if you repair them they dont fall over )!
The red jump suit the tower crew uses has copper wire in the weave
this helps cut down on the R.F. that his body will receive.
(Nasa uses seomthing like this in the spacewalk suit)
I had to cut the output power way back
so the crew could paint the
top of the tower near
the FM antenna bays.
the transmitter power is about 16.5 kw and feeds into a multi-bay
CP antenna
pointing allmost north! ( away from the city of lincense , see
signal map below)
this could be 5 smaller stations and serve the LOCAL public much
better.
From up here you can see into the altamont
area
( wind mills ( clue to site needs )
,
Tracy, hw 580 I-5 and 132 ,
Man look at the size of that coax!! you
can see the 1 watt UHF T.S.L. Yagi antenna
sending the remote control 'data' back to the studio in Modesto.
Over the years there have been a few bullet holes in this coax(and
the lights)
but it's so large and tuff that the holes were patched and it
keeps
on working...
More Photo's of
Corral Hollow Road,
This 6 foot microwave dish antenna picks up the 6 watt 946 Mhz
STL signal
from the studio in West Modesto,Ca. mixed in this wideband FM
signal is...
Composit stereo audio RBDS ID and GPS updates
Remote control data on a 92kc wave (like a SCA)
that data is used to restart the transmitter , turn on the UHF
RPU marti repeater
and to take power output readings.
when the FM transmitter power output drops to 90%
someone (as far away as Reno,Nv.)
has to drive all the way up here and change the
power tube's
;P
which connects Livermore and Tracy.
This is the eastern end, looking west.
