Pelandale roundabout project.
In mornings and afternoons, the Pelandale interchange operates at what traffic
experts call level F
when motorists can wait up to 80 seconds to get through.
That is considered unacceptable by most drivers.
Continued commercial growth is likely to make the interchange even more frustrating.
Wal-Mart
wants to join Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse and the Costco warehouse store
at
Pelandale and Sisk. Watch for a traffic jam in this area around 5pm.

The Altamont Commuter Express Train running between Stockton and San Jose
by way of Manteca, Livermore and Fremont. ACE runs two westbound trips each
weekday morning,
and two return trips in the afternoon. ACE will add a third train to this
route by summer's end
and a train
serving Modesto perhaps next spring.
Several other passenger
rail systems serve the Central Valley and Bay Area.
The council board agreed to seek voter approval of a
half-cent sales tax to
pay for the ACE train, that nearly 84 Stanislaus County residents ride...

A group of gas station owners are filing a lawsuit against Shell Oil, claiming the company is trying to drive them out of business. The dispute stems from franchise fees Shell requires from its service stations. Franchise owners are complaining that Shell has jacked-up the fees 400-percent in recent months. Rail Connects Two Cities - (SACRAMENTO,CA.) --
For the first time in nearly 30 years, rail passengers can ride from Sacramento to Stockton without transferring to a bus. Amtrak began uninterrupted service yesterday along the corridor serving Bakersfield, Fresno, Modesto and Stockton. Since 1971, Amtrak passengers on that route have been forced to ride the bus between Stockton and Sacramento because there was no money for a passenger rail. Maybe sometime befor we choke on the smog, passengers will ride the rails along hiway 99 too!

L.A.'s Red Line Opens - (HOLLYWOOD) --
The most unusual subway station in Los Angeles is now open.
The Red Line's stop at Hollywood and Vine resembles an entrance
to a theme park. The public will be able to get a free test ride
this weekend from downtown Los Angeles. The rest of the line
into North Hollywood is scheduled to open next year.
When completed, the nearly 13- mile subway line will have cost
up to six BILLION dollars.

Witnesses told investigators that the victim's 1991 Honda CRX was traveling at about 90 mph and appeared to be racing two other cars also heading west on the freeway.
The victim's car was changing from one lane to another, cutting in and out of traffic, officers said. Two other drivers were doing the same thing, the CHP said.
The victim attempted to pass a car in the fast lane by using the dirt area of the center median, officers said. When he tried to steer back onto the freeway pavement, the CHP said, the driver lost control.
The Honda spun around, struck a guardrail and overturned in a ditch along the freeway. The victim wasn't wearing a seat belt and died at the scene,
