Two masked men broke into the Salida Club at about 4:15
a.m. Monday and assaulted the owner, who had been sleeping in a small
apartment connected to the bar in the 4900 block of Elm Street
. The intruders tied up the victim, searched the apartment and the bar,
and found some money, Letras said. The robbers got away in the victim's
red 1999 Dodge pickup, found abandoned Monday night in a field on Highway
120 just east of Jack Tone Road in San Joaquin County. Letras said deputies
found evidence at the Salida Club that pointed them to the suspect,
identified as Billy Travis, 26, of Ripon.
Ripon police had arrested Travis on Tuesday
on unrelated felony warrants. He was booked on charges of
drug possession, burglary, resisting or delaying a police officer and
hit-and-run. Travis now faces charges in Stanislaus County of home-invasion
robbery, false imprisonment, burglary and vehicle theft. "We placed
a hold on Travis and detectives are looking into the possibility that
he might be involved in the recent string of home-invasion robberies
within (Stanislaus) County,"
