As a huge tire fire continued to belch a thick plume of dark smoke
into the Central
Valley sky Thursday, state and
local
officials tried to quell mounting
public concern
that fallout from the blaze could pose serious health risks.
While air samples taken in the Central Valley
and Bay Area didn't detect any
significant increase in pollution due to the
burning cache of rubber, danger was
only
a shift of the wind away, officials said.

Situation
is evaluated every day
They estimate
that by the end of the weekend the oil fire could
be suppressed.
No speculation
on when tire fire could be suppressed
EPA brought

(10/9) FIRE CREWS ATTACK TIRE BLAZE :
SPECIAL FOAM USED TO SMOTHER BURNING RUBBER
Special fire crews are now pouring foam on
the mountain of burning tires
in Stanislaus County in an effort to finally
extinguish the blaze. The tires
stand six stories high, and experts say it
could take weeks to extinguish
the entire pile. Already, crews have snuffed
the flames burning on the
pools of waste oil that came from the burning
tires. The oil fire was
blamed for the thick plumes of smoke that
covered Stanislaus County.
Nearby residents are just happy that work
is now underway to finally
douse the flames.kcra
